About the Artist

I am an artist from a family of science melding the polarities as a practitioner of art and medicine. These two disciplines have a lot in common. A new patient, or a new painting, a patient at a different time or a painting in a different light or season, are each a new beginning. I practice painting as I practice medicine, neither completed with one technique or with one outcome.
Akin to a magnetic force I am pulled by an internal sense of creativity to pleine aire painting which concurrently satisfies a parallel attraction to the out of doors. Being absorbed in the ambiance of nature while painting is as if receiving a blessing.
Over the past 50 years I have taken numerous classes and workshops with varied teachers and mentors. To each of them I am indebted as well as the plethora from the media, magazines, galleries, and museums. For half of this time I have lived in Santa Barbara where the primary direct influence on my painting has been with nationally recognized local artists especially including Merridith Abbott, Marcia Burtt, Michael Drury, Kathleen Elsey, Jorgen Hansen, Larry Iwerks and Thomas Van Stein.
